*Sigh*… my NEED to take photos …

Sometimes, the light is too pretty to not take photos.

Even when all that is going on is the boys “training” Charlie with peanut butter…

And messing with each other …

        And climbing stumps …

        And throwing spears …

And climbing trees and waving at Dad …

And sitting and contemplating ever so maturely in that tree …

Sometimes, though, I’m feeling the need to grab my camera.  Not just the ‘ooh, this would be fun to photograph’, but the need.  I feel an ache when I see an image I’d love to take, but don’t have my camera.  I do not take my camera with me everywhere, but at home when the light is beautiful or interesting or different I feel that need.  I’m not sure I like that my photography is becoming a ‘need’ for me.  I’d rather feel that I ‘want’ to take photos or that I ‘get’ to take some.  But ‘need’ suggests dependency and ehh…. I don’t like that so much.

Plus, as I sit here beside a stack of hundreds of photos I just had printed recently for my albums (hundreds and hundreds …) I’m feeling a little over-whelmed by that ever present need.  I know this ‘need’ tends to ebb-and-flow and I’m actually sort of hoping that an ‘ebb’ is coming.

If only these boys would stop growing up so fast and lookin’ so cute in the pretty light.  It is just SO hard to step away from the hobby of photography because my motivation is to capture life, and life keeps happening.  Some people give themselves the project challenge of a 365, where they strive to take a photo-a-day.  I’m striving to figure out how to take less photos or at least post and print less.  How do I go about training my brain and heart to not need take so many photos??

Thanks for being here and sharing in my thoughts.  Figuring out how to limit my photography will take time, so don’t worry, I still have TONS of images to share!  Hah!

        • Carol - Oh Lacey, you have a need to take photos and I have a need to see your photos! (hope that doesn’t sound creepy) Please don’t post less. Your boys are growing up so fast so this is the time for you to take lots of photos. (to everything there is a season…) I know from experience that too soon they will be gone and then those photographs are going to be treasured so much more.

If you have to choose between posting or printing less, maybe choose to print just a teeny tiny bit less. 🙂ReplyCancel

        • Jolene - Beautiful photos as always 🙂 I really know how you feel on the need to take photos. I feel that way a lot, but I guess I classify it as my way of being creative, because I don’t sew, craft, etc. :)Thanks for sharing! I don’t think you’ll regret the photos you took 🙂ReplyCancel
