The Darker Side of Homeschooling

The darker side of homeschooling, from what I posted the other day, is that when my child is struggling with a portion of  his schooling I have no one to point the finger at, but myself.   With any form of schooling I know the parents always play a huge roll, but I do feel quite a weight on my shoulders knowing their education is solely on ME.  Not a teacher who was trained for years to do this.  But me.  Just their mom.

So, when I perceive a struggle … not even really knowing if it actually is a struggle or not or if what they are experiencing is totally normal … its on me and it is ME that hasn’t done enough.

But the bright side is, I’m pretty darned committed to walk with my kids through whatever struggle they face, and will do whatever I can to bring them past it.  So, that’s what I plan to do. :)

I don’t know how you do it, Lacey. I feel that kind of guilt daily and I don’t homeschool. I admire you for all that you do, CM, homeschool, a photography business! Keep your chin up. You have three very lucky boys!

It must be so tough! I can’t imagine! My 6yo struggles with spelling out words on her own. She can read really well, but she isn’t great at translating the words she knows onto paper to write herself. I think they all have some challenges, regardless of their teacher. It’s so great that you’re so committed!!!

Hi, I just found your site and read the post about homeschooling. I just wanted to let you know there will be days like this, but the good days out-weigh the bad. I homeschooled all my boys and there were sometimes that were a struggle for them and for me. They are all grown-up and married. They turned out alright – my 35 yr old is with a large construction company as an Assistant project manager, my 27 yr old is a chef for the Breakers in W. Palm Beach, and my youngest, who is 25 yrs., is a Lance Corporal in the Marines.

You’re doing a good thing. Thanks for letting me post.

Oh Lacey. These are sad to see but only because you, as Mom are showing us how YOU feel with his struggles. You can do this. Gage can do this. You got this!!
